21st INQUA Congress

The 21st INQUA Congress “Time for Change” will be held in Rome from 14 to 20 July 2023.

This is the International Congress organized every four years by INQUA (International Union for Quaternary) where several Quaternary experts from all over the world participate.

It will be the second INQUA Congress hosted in Italy, seventy years after the 1953 Congress held in Pisa and Rome. The choice of Italy has been made during the last INQUA Congress of 2019 in Dublin, selected among the candidates of several other countries.

The location of the Congress will be the University of Rome "La Sapienza", the largest university in Europe with over 700 years of history, capable of hosting approximately 3,000 participants who generally participate in the Congresses organized by INQUA.

The scientific program includes numerous thematic sessions, workshops and short courses. Furthermore, in the days preceding and following the Congress, geological excursions will be organized in most interesting geological sitest in Italy and in the Mediterranean countries.

ISPRA is among the promoters of the Congress together with "La Sapienza" University, the CNR and AIQUA (Italian Association for the study of the Quaternary). The entire national scientific community that deals with the Quaternary is involved in the organization of the Congress.

In order to define the scientific sessions of the Congress, a Call for Session was launched. The deadline for submitting session proposals is March 31st.
